Food On the Edge 2022 Case

We recently participated as wine sponsor for the third year at Food On the Edge 2022. FOTE is the brainchild of Michelin Star Chef JP McMahon and is a symposium where some of the world’s best chefs and  food producers come together to share ideas to enhance their product and the food world in general. This years theme was disruption and regeneration and many of the wines in this case refect this theme.

Contesa Pecorino €20,00 – Abruzzo, Italy

A revived variety rescued from obscurity by a couple of wineries including Contesa. Plenty on offer here with richness on the palate, spiciness and a zesty lime finish.

Terraprima White €24.00 – Penedes, Spain

Owner Carlos Esteva rescued this vineyard from being turned into a quarry. This venerable vineyard is ful of old vine Xarel-lo which makes a complex and mineral wine that’s a great match with seafood.

Benanti Etna Rosso €29.00 – Etna DOC, Italy

You’d struggle to name a more disruptive situation than making wine on an active volcano! Benanti’s Etna Rosso is a super intro to the lean, flavourful and mineral style of wine made on Mount Etna.

Naoussa Alta €24.50- Thymiopoulos, Naoussa, Greece

Apostolas Thymiopoulos has revived his family’s vineyards creating a worldwide reputtation for crafting fantastic wines from the Xinomavro variety. This example has plenty to offer with red fruit, medium body and oodles of complexity.

Pato Frio Red €19.95 – Ribafreixo Alentejo, Portugal

A lovely juicy yet elegant red from the Alentejo. The 20% of Alfrocheiro in the blend here makes all the difference giving the wine lifted aromatics and a lovely freshness.

Ulterior Mazuelo €26.40 – Bodegas Verum La Mancha, Spain

A firm customer favourite this wine is a product of Elias Lopez Montero’s hard work planting drought resistant varieties in the organic family vineyards in the centre of Spain. Lots of juicy purple fruit, spice and generous mouthfeel.
