White wine
Melsheimer Mullay-Hoffberg Riesling Trocken
A single vineyard bone dry Riesling from the steep slopes of Mullay-Hoffberg. Grapes from Very old low yielding vines go through a long fermentation with only a little sulphur added at bottling. The wine has a very expressive nose with lime, smoky mineral and toasty notes with spice and musk. Longer and purer than the estate it’s a super wine to enjoy now or cellar for years to come.

the producer
Weingut Melsheimer
Weingut Melsheimer has been run by Thorsten Melsheimer since the early 1990’s. Organic since 1995 and now farmed biodynamically Melsheimer excels in producing high elevation Riesling. The wines are mostly dry but with some off-dry, sweet and sparkling wines also made from old vines in the Mullay-Hoffberg vineyard high above the river Mosel. Thorsten (now with his son by his side) believes in a low intervention approach in the vineyard and winery. He has a unique approach to fermentation – some fermantations can last up to 4 years! A visit to his cellar is an experience – you can hear the fermentations working away in the old oak foudre in his underground cellar. Suffice to say the wines they produce are delicious.
