La Ganghija Barbaresco Enzo Rapalino

100% Nebbiolo made from 45 year old vines and the wine which put La Ganghija on the map. The grapes are usually hand-picked in October and vinified in stainless steel with a long gentle maceration. Aged for 24 months in French oak and large Slavonian oak casks, the wine has dark cherry notes, liquorice, touches of lifted violet, wild herbs and tobacco notes. More powerful than the Nebbiolo with lots of ageing potential.

the producer

La Ganghija

Based in Treiso near Alba, Enzo Rapalino is a talented winemaker who has transformed his family’s wine business in the space of just over a decade. The previous generations of the Rapalino family used to sell their grapes to large producers in the area. Enzo changed all this by going to college to qualify as a winemaker and built a winery in 2004. He hasn’t looked back since, winning lots of awards and exporting to multiple countries. Largely making fragrant and complex Nebbiolo-based wines he also makes a fruit-filled delicious Barbera d’Alba too. We met him first in 2010 and we can enthusiastically attest to the qualities of the man and the wines in the past 10 years.
