Red wine
Cuvee Alegre Toro DO
Tinta de Toro grapes are hand harvested and fermented. An extended maceration extracts plenty of colour and aromatics, after which the wine is aged 14 months in French oak.
The wine has red fruit, damson and cherry fruit notes with coconut husk, toast and sweet spice notes of nutmeg and cinnamon to the fore. A structured, round and rich wine that remains balanced and drinkable throughout. Organically certified.

the producer
Francois Lurton Espana
Francois Lurton and his brother Jacques started making wine in 1992 in Rueda followed shortly by buying up some plots of old vines in the neighbouring DO of Toro. Both areas have similar conditions with continental climates and large diurnal temperature differences. The vineyards in Rueda are at 700M asl with clay, sandy soils and pebbles located at La Seca close to the river. In Toro the vineyards are at 620-680M asl on sandy soils. Today, Francois works organically – the vineyard in Toro is organically certified since 2016 and Rueda from 2020 vintage onwards. The wines are authentic, full of varietal character and good value for money. The premium wines are made under the Cuvee Alegre banner where they work with older ‘En Vaso’ vines to obtain more concentration and complexity.
