Red wine

Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2017

Grenache (80%) plus Mourvedre aged for 12 months in barriques. This is a full octane and complex red wine – there’s lots of power stuffed into its ample frame. Dark fruits, black cherry and kirsh with subtle hints of forest floor and garrique herbs. Lots of spicy notes on show too with nutmeg and liquorice. Full bodied and concentrated with a long balanced and fresh finish.

the producer

Domaine Galevan

We were first introduced to Domaine Galevan by one of the best and most genuine cheesemakers in Ireland, the late and much missed David Tiernan of Glebe Brethen. David used to holiday close to the Domaine and gave the estate a great recommendation and so these wines have always been a bit more personal to us. Coralie Goumarre is the 9th generation of her family to run Domaine Galevan based in Courthezon, one of the communes of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The estate has 60hA of vines including a 3.5hA parcel in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, average age of the vines is 55 years old with some very old centenary Grenache vines on the property. Organically certified since 2011, Coralie’s wines are expressive, individual wines with lots of complexity, energy and freshness compared to many heavy alcoholic wines being produced in the Southern Rhone these days. If you give them a try you will not be disappointed!
