CAN RAFOLS DEL CAUS EL ROCALLIS PENEDES
An off the beaten track, complex wine. The variety Incrocio Manzoni originates in the Veneto region of Italy and means Manzoni’s Crossing – the Manzoni being Oenologist Professor Luigi Manzoni who created this particular white cross in the 1930s. Its parents are Riesling and Pinot Blanc. Flexible & versatile, it adapts to its growing conditions and environment, and has strong resistance to many vineyard hazards. Outside of Italy, Penedes took to the variety in the 1990s and Can Rafols del Caus planted the vines in the early 90s. Hand harvested and natural yeast fermentation followed by 4 to 5 months in oak and 2 years in bottle prior to release. On the nose it has a range of aromas – ripe, white fruit, peach, melon, quince and white blossom. On the palate it is both creamy and mineral with a touch of salinity on the finish. An elegant, balanced and evolving wine. Only 3,516 of this 2013 vintage were made.
