Red wine
Benanti Etna Rosso
Mostly made with Nerello Mascalese with a small proportion of Nerello Cappuccio. Grapes are harvested in October (ripening is steady and even on Mt. Etna) and after fermentation the wine is partially aged in oak. Light in colour the wine has cherry fruit with tobacco notes and a marked smoky and mineral character. The wine is medium bodied with fine grained tannins – long and complex.

the producer
Benanti
The pioneer winery in modern Etna wine production founded by Giuseppe Benanti in 1988. Nowadays run by twin sons Antonio and Salvino (it’s very hard to tell them apart!) they produce outstanding wines really representative of the area using only local indigenous grapes – Carricante for the whites, Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio for the reds. These wines are cool climate wines for lovers of crisp, mineral whites and elegant, complex reds that are on the lighter side.
