BBQ Case €88. Was €98.70
Choosing wines for a BBQ can be a little trickier than you think. The reds should be juicy, low in tannin with some smoky notes to pick up the flavours of the cooking. The whites should be both zippy and round to match all seafood and white meats. And the rosés need a bit of all of the above. The six wines in this case have been chosen to match all that the BBQ chef can throw at them.
An aromatic blend of Verdejo and Sauvignon full of crisp citrus and stone fruit perfect for matching with grilled seafood and salads.
Made by Contesa Vini from organically grown grapes, this wine shows why it was such a great move for owner Rocco Pasetti to rescue the grape Pecorino from near extinction. Here it has vibrant stone fruit and spice which makes it a great all rounder with enough heft and subtlety to match seafood, poultry or pork off the BBQ.
One of our favourite rose wines and a brilliant food wine. Lots of summer fruits with pomegranate and spicy notes and although dry it has ample richness. A great match with seafood, grilled vegetables, lentil or chickpea salads or any spicy food. Organically certified.
Recently reviewed by Cathal MacBride in the Sunday Business Post, he proclaimed this little belter from the Alentejo excellent value. He said ‘its dark fruits and savoury finish make it a perfect match with a classic beef burger’ – and who are we to argue?
A medium bodied spicy red made from mainly Sangiovese grapes grown on the Borgo Paglianetto organic estate in the Le Marche hills. This matches well with chicken in a tomato and fennel seed marinade or ribs in a BBQ sauce.
Bobal is an up and coming variety from South-Eastern Spain and it really shows its flexibility here. Bobal En Calma is made by Dominio de la Vega near the historic wine town of Requena. It comes from a single plot of 60 year old organically farmed vines – dark fruit with savoury and smoky edges make it a must with grilled lamb and beef or anything with a smoky marinade or sauce.
