Melsheimer Mosel Riesling Estate Trocken

A blend from around the Melsheimer property and a great introduction to the estate’s dry wines. Lots of trademark Mosel citrus (mainly lime), smoky mineral notes, spicey notes (think Ginger paste) and yellow orchard fruit as well as some more tropical notes. Although always lowish in alcohol (11-12% abv) the wine has a lovely mouthfeel and has a typically long, fresh finish.

the producer

Weingut Melsheimer

Weingut Melsheimer has been run by Thorsten Melsheimer since the early 1990’s. Organic since 1995 and now farmed biodynamically Melsheimer excels in producing high elevation Riesling. The wines are mostly dry but with some off-dry, sweet and sparkling wines also made from old vines in the Mullay-Hoffberg vineyard high above the river Mosel. Thorsten (now with his son by his side) believes in a low intervention approach in the vineyard and winery. He has a unique approach to fermentation – some fermantations can last up to 4 years! A visit to his cellar is an experience – you can hear the fermentations working away in the old oak foudre in his underground cellar. Suffice to say the wines they produce are delicious.
