This range of wines has become a staff favourite and extremely popular on the lists of some of the best Italian restaurants here in Ireland. Based around 60km north of Cagliari the vineyards have been in Artemio Olianas’s family since 1919. Artemio joined forces with Stefano Casadei (see Castello del Trebbio and Tenuta Casadei) in 2000 and the modern incarnation of the winery was born. Today they farm 25hA of vines organically and with a process they call biointegrale which involves integrating with nature – so no mechanisation in the vineyard (horses instead), plenty of farm animals on the land and only natural herbicides and fertilizers. In the winery Stefano who spent quite a bit of time in Georgia uses a lot of natural materials with partial or total fermentation in clay amphorae. All fermentations are spontaneous and there is little or no sulphur added at bottling. Stefano’s daughter Elena makes a micro range of wines made in Amphorae which we get a small allocation of, so please get in touch if you’re interested.
