2022 is Springing with new wines!

Spring is in the air (well sort of!) and this signals a time when we look to taste, make changes and recruit new producers and wines to the portfolio.

As we write this blog we are in conversations with multiple producers in Greece, France, Spain and more widely Italy where we haven’t changed too many wines in the last few years.

This is one of the most enjoyable times in a wine merchant’s life as we taste new wines, discover new grape varieties from new areas (anybody try Robola from Kefalonia?) and we eagerly anticipate the release of new vintages of some of our most prestigious wines.

Late spring sees the release of the new vinatges of Barolo, Barbaresco and Brunello di Montalcino. We work with some of the best producers from these areas such as Domenico Clerico in Barolo and Fattoria La Magia in Montalcino and we’ll have more news shortly about the upcoming release of their wines.

Meanwhile we’ve just landed a stunning wine from Trentino, not always recognized as an area for fine wines. It’s a top class Pinot Nero made in tiny quantities by boutique producer Maso Cantanghel from the 2018 vintage – find out more here.

This is truly one of the best wines we’ve tasted in the last 12 months, and it received 3 glasses in the Gambero Rosso guide which puts it in the top 1-2% of all the Italian wines they’ve tasted. Although we’d never term it an inexpensive wine, it offers great quality at €40 and an equivalent Pinot from a more recognized area would cost twice this amount. We managed to grab 20 cases, so there is a limited quantity available!

That’s it for now. More news anon!
